2021 EMS Award Nominations

Thank you for your interest in the 2021 EMS Awards!  This year we have revised the categories and criteria to better represent the EMS Community.   The EMS Awards provide an opportunity to recognize those individuals that have gone above and beyond the call of duty as well as citizens that have taken extraordinary action to help someone in need.  While all nominees will be recognized, each category will have one recipient that will be announced during the 2021 EMS Awards Program.  The EMS Awards Program will take place Friday evening, November 12, 2021 during the National Conference on EMS in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  Please take a moment to review the criteria to ensure your nomination is categorized correctly.  Nominations not meeting the criteria or minimum requirements will not be considered.   All Nominations must be a minimum of 300 words and be submitted no later than August 16, 2021.  


Paramedic of the Year: Honors a currently recognized Mobile Intensive Care, Mobile Specialty Care, or Mobile Aeromedical Care clinician who has assumed a leadership role in the pre-hospital, inter-hospital, post-hospital, or ex-hospital environment by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or clinical education.

Mobile Healthcare Physician of the Year:  Honors a physician who has served as a medical director, on or offline, for a pre-hospital, inter-hospital, post-hospital, or ex-hospital program, and who has made a positive contribution to mobile healthcare.

EMT of the Year: Honors a currently licensed EMT who has assumed a leadership role in mobile healthcare by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to mobile healthcare, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training. (Nominee must only be educated to a maximum of a EMT level).

Outstanding EMS Action by a Program/Team: Honors an program or team on the same incident for an outstanding call/incident/rescue by EMS clinicians.

First Responder of the Year:  Honors a first responder affiliated with an organization (e.g., police, fire, industrial) who has assumed a leadership role by achievement in areas of on-scene patient care, outstanding rescue, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training. (Nominee must only be trained to a maximum of a First Responder level)

Outstanding EMS Action by a Citizen: Honors a private citizen for a lifesaving act in which quick thinking, fast action and heroism were demonstrated, or, for unique advocacy of EMS.

Nurse of the Year:  Honors a currently recognized Mobile Intensive Care, Mobile Specialty Care, or Mobile Aeromedical Care Nurse who has assumed a leadership role in the pre-hospital, inter-hospital, post-hospital, or ex-hospital environment by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or training.

Outstanding EMS Action by a Youth:  Honors a child (15 years or younger) for a lifesaving act in which quick thinking, fast action and heroism were demonstrated, or, for unique advocacy of EMS.

Mobile Healthcare Administrator of the Year :  Honors a mobile healthcare administrator on a local, county, regional, or state level who has served mobile healthcare in some capacity and who has made a positive contribution to mobile healthcare by achievement in areas of patient care, public access to EMS, disaster preparedness, public education, and/or clinical education.

EMS Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award: Honors an individual for lifetime achievement (service of 20 or more years) in the EMS field. At least 15 years of that experience must have been as an EMS volunteer. 

Mobile Healthcare Communicator of the Year:   Honors a Mobile Healthcare Communicator for outstanding effort in managing a emergency medical call. (If available, please include a tape or transcript of the call.)

Mobile Healthcare Career Lifetime Achievement Award: Honors an individual for lifetime achievement (service of 20 or more years) in the EMS field. At least 15 years of that experience must have been as a career EMS employee. 

Mobile Healthcare Educator of the Year:  Honors a mobile healthcare educator, course coordinator or clinical educator who has advanced EMS education through outstanding organization or innovation in the delivery of educational programs to mobile healthcare clinicians.

NEW THIS YEAR:  EMS Community Service Award: Recognizes a program or mobile healthcare group who has made an outstanding commitment to (non-patient) community outreach in EMS.  Please identify the initiative and specifically how it has affected the community as a whole. 

THE TOP FIVE PROGRAMS WILL BE VOTED ON BY THE PUBLIC.  The winner will be announced at the Awards Program.
